Wrapping Up Another Uni Semester and How's Your Pillow

Update

The first half of the year seems to have flown by in a whirlwind and here we are in July already. Another uni semester wraps up for me, but more excitingly it means only one final semester of uni to go. I have a couple of practical placements to do this semester with the first commencing 26th July for 4 weeks and in October for 6 weeks and then I've finished my masters in clinical exercise physiology! I can hardly believe it, and while I love the learning, I can tell you I won't miss the deadlines, late nights and assignment writing at all.

It has been a very intense semester and a long haul of nearly eight years which has involved shuffling work hours and client appointments to fit into a sometimes very unforgiving uni timetable. I really want to thank everyone for being so accommodating over this period when I've had to change work days and availability around sometimes at a moments notice, and for all your ongoing support and encouragement, it has been very much appreciated. I feel like so many of you have been on this roller coaster uni journey with me every step of the way.

Over this second half of the year as I embark on these final practicums I'll be working on how I'm going to take all this new found knowledge forward and how I will blend my massage therapy and exercise physiology (EP) work in the future. Rest assured massage will always be part of what I do and I am very happy and excited to talk to you about suitable exercises to help maximise the benefits of your treatment. If this interests you just ask me when you see me next.

If you would like a glimpse into what I've been studying these past 8 years, Insight on SBS did a fantastic 2 part series on 'The Exercise Pill for Chronic Disease' which showcases the latest research and some beautiful real life stories of exactly what exercise physiology can do for chronic disease management and prevention. If you missed 'The Exercise Pill' on SBS Insight, (it aired 26th June and 3rd July 2018), I highly recommend catching it on SBS on demand. I've included the link here  https://www.sbs.com.au/ondemand/video/1259241027679

If there are any particular topics on exercise, physical activity and/or chronic disease management/prevention that you would like to know more about, please let me know, as I'll be doing my best to put some blogs posts up in the future for those that are interested.

Work Days

This week and next week I will be in Cleveland Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Holland Park Monday, Tuesday so I can take a couple of weekends off. From 23rd July I will be in Cleveland for massage treatments Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays and in Holland Park Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Commencing the 26th July I'll be doing a practicum with Blue Care Carina for 4 weeks and  I expect I will have some reduced availability Mondays and Thursdays (exact times are still being finalised with Blue Care so I will keep you posted).

Pillows

On another note, if you are waking in the morning or suffering with a stiff or sore neck (which I often see around this time of year) it maybe time to change your pillow. Make sure it provides good support to your neck and ensures that your neck and spine remain in a straight line when your sleeping. I have a supply of the memory foam adjustable contoured posture form pillows ($90-) as well as the smaller travel pillows ($49-). This is what I sleep on and I take mine everywhere!

I hope you get to enjoy some of the beautiful winter sunshine and 'refreshing' cooler mornings. I look forward to seeing you again soon. Remember you can always check my availability and/or book on line at www.bodyrehab.net.au or call/text me on 0402 883 230 and I'll let you know what I have available.
